UK pop sensation Amelia Lily is the latest to join the “Make Mine Milk” campaign where a number of celebrities have milk mustache. This is a campaign that aims to encourage more people to add milk to their daily diet. The 18 year old songstress has joined other stars like Pixie Lott, Vinnie Jones, Rupert Grint and Kelly Rowland to name a few in raising their voices against bullying. The anti-bullying campaign is a co-venture between the Milk Marketing Forum and the BeatBullying charitable organization.
The collaboration of the two organizations has resulted in a competition called Find Your Voice for poets and songwriters to write about bullying. The winning entry will be made into a song that will be sung by Amelia. This awareness campaign is an important one as bullying in schools has become an epidemic. Nowadays, it is no longer confined to just schools and playgrounds. Cyber-bullying has also become a major concern with thousands of young kids and teenagers having access to the Internet. Technology has made bullying possible through computers and smartphones.
Amelia has voiced her opinion in the matter by starring in an ad campaign that speaks about bullying and its dangers. Many of us have heard or read about young kids and teens committing suicide due to the daily bullying that they receive from the peers at school as well as off-campus. Many do not confide in others like family and friends for a number of reasons which include shame, fear, etc. When they are no longer able to take it, they snap and suicide becomes the only option to escape the humiliation that they face on a daily basis.
Young stars like Amelia Lily are great role-models as the youth look up to them. Young kids are also able to identify more with young celeb and this is exactly why the two organizations are pleased and excited to have Amelia join in their efforts to stop bullying. What makes her even more special is the fact that she has a strong personality and fearless when it comes to her identity. When kids see that she is not afraid to be herself, they emulate that characteristic and changes slowly emerge in how they respond to bullies.
Amelia will be one of the judges of the Find Your Voice competition and she has spoken about how excited and proud she is to be a part of an important cause. She understands that schools can be a nightmare for many young people due to bullying as well as peer pressure. She also says that every teen wants to be accepted by their peers and change many things about themselves to be able to “fit in” with others. This is why she strongly appeals to the youth to never be afraid to be themselves.
More awareness has to be spread in the UK, as well as other parts of the world about bullying and the effect it can have on kids. It is a serious issue that needs to be stopped and with celebs like Amelia Lily, it will certainly make a huge impact on anti-bullying.
